I've found this to be untrue.
Though, you could just be hanging out with a low-brow crowd.
Or, basing this off of the media where men are almost always portrayed as simpletons.
Either way, you may as well be asking "Why is the world flat?"

Most men like me actually prefer wit, I'm not sure I've heard of story humor though.

I'm a woman and used to love "I Love Lucy" which is considered slapstick humor. I've never liked the Three Stooges though.

What you're asking is 'why do men like physical humor while women do not'?
It's because men are often competitive - and the footage of some guy falling on his you-know-what is funny 'cause it ain't us.
Women are often nurturers - and when they see the same guy fall their first thought is for his well being.
Feel free to switch the words 'men' and 'women' in this sweeping generalization...

I don't think this is true. I'm a man and I love the little clever jokes is shows like the Simpsons (for example) far more than the obvious slapstick jokes.

There was a study done that suggests that women have more humour filters in their minds than men. When women look watch a comedy or hear a joke they're unconsciously testing it to see if its hurtful to anyone or mean (there were other criteria but I forget them) whereas men just laugh at things that are funny.

Ummm... I don't really agree with that... I sometimes find slap stick humor more funny then story humor... I really think its all in the person.

Men love men comedians and slapstick or story tellers.
