I have been told by my 'foot specialist' that i have broken my small toe and it is a spiral fraction. He says I need a small surgery to put pins in it to camp the bone together, but i can move it, and it is getting better. Do you think i really need it? he says it will take about a year to heal properly?

Spiral fractures don't always heal properly without surgery or immobilization. Without treatment, there's a good chance you will end up with arthritic joints in the vicinity of the break if the toe is mis-aligned. If the present alignment of the toe is not causing pain, you might get by without surgery if you wore a shoe that does not flex. It would be a good idea to see an orthopedic surgeon and get a second opinion about your treatment options.

You should run this by your dr. Spiral fractures dont heal ver y well but it is possible that yours has healed on its on though. If you tell the dr that its getting better and you can move it he may decide that you dont need the surgery.

Get a second opinion from a specialist, not a "foot specialist".
