The dub is just fine. Everyone here who is like "I watched the sub, and the dub just sounds completely wrong," well DUH! If you watch something for 40+ episodes, and then here it with new voices- no matter what they sound like- it is going to sound weird to you.

If you get beyond the initial oddness (or if you are just watching the series for the first time), then you will see that the dub is actually above average. Ryuk's voice is great, and so is L's. Light's is passable. The only one I really have a qualm with thus far is Light's father- but that's only one character so far.

This is coming from a guy who has seen a few hundred series, and usually prefers the sub to dub.

BAD!! any anime thats dubbed is bad. the voices dont match the character's personalities like they do in japanese. it sounds really weird and gives u a bad feeling about anime

I actually didn't find it as bad as I thought. Light still cackles. They call death gods Shinigami instead of reapers. I'm pretty happy. I thought I should be disappointed with Light's voice, but it ain't so bad.

But Japanese was better by FAR!!

I think it's bad. I like Ryuk's voice, though, because I think that it conveys more evil lurking beneath the surface than the japanese voice. I REALLY HATE Light's voice. His evil laugh just dosen't do it for me.

i think the dub is not that bad and i think it's good, but it is not better than the japanese version.

Horrible. Just plain horrible. They voices don't match the characters in the least, especially L.

I think it's kind of awful... L sounds like a teacher! >_< Also the voices come out as... "fake" to me... in Japanese it sounds much more emotional and realistic. It's kind of lame in English. Really. Stick to the subtitled version!

I WATCHED THE ENTIRE THING SUBBED AND IT WAS GREAT! WHEN I HEARD THEY WERE GOING TO DUB IT I INSTINCTIVELY KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO RUIN IT. SO I THOUGHT" OK I WILL WATCH 1 EPISODE DUBBED JUST TO CONFIRM MY SUSPICIONS" NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS RIGHT! THE DUB IS AN ABOMINATION AND A TRAGEDY.

I SUGGEST YOU SKIP IT DUBBED AND GO FOR A SUBBED VERSION. THIS NOT ONLY GOES FOR DEATH NOTE BUT 99.9% OF ALL ANIME. ENGLISH VERSIONS TEND TO CHANGE A LOT OF THE DIALOG AND THE VOICE ACTING IS ALWAYS HORRID. SO PLEASE , PLEASE, PLEASE, WATCH YOUR ANIME SUBBED!!!

Bad. Light sounds like a five year old. Still, it beats reading subtitles.
