it is a small flag and it will be from my sons for their grandfather, they are only 3 months old, so i wanted something cute..not mean. if not cute maybe some lkind of boating term, i don't know much about boating but i was thinking of something with our last name in it.

The worst thing that could happen to any sailor on a boating trip was to be "all sewn up", you were done for dead as the proverbial dodo, you got stitched up inside of some old canvas and dumped over the side. They would start stitching from your feet and worked up, the last stitch went through the poor old sailors nose (ouch


* Pull your finger out, cannons were primed with a small amount of gunpowder, this was poured into a small hole. The sailor was ordered to keep his finger over this hole to stop the powder from falling out, just before they ignited the powder they were told pull your finger out


* Put through the hoop, before going into battle sailors hammocks had to be tightly rolled, they had to tie them to the ships sides, this was their only protection against shot and splinters. The hammock had to be passed through a regulation sized hoop to make sure they had them tight enough. So if you go boating and you have a hammock full of holes, be careful you do not want to be falling through it
