It's part of the right wing lunacy assault on reason in America, also see liberal bias in the media, intelligent design and Faux "News". They think liberals are waging a war on Christmas and wishing happy holidays is actually a weapon in that war against Christianity and America. Of course there is totally no war on Christmas and liberals have far better things to do. I'm sure you know some liberals, how many are fighting a war on Chrsitmas and how many are just enjoying the holidays when they come? Once again conservatives are fighting monsters that don't exist or only in their imagination.

It's very ironic how conservatives constantly claim to be victims (look at recent events on this forum but everywhere if you look with an open mind. Iraq ,the trillion dollar debt, illegal imigration), something they love to stereotype liberals with. It's never their lies, cheating and hate that gets them into trouble no it are evil liberals and their almighty bias.
I'm really convinced American conservatism, the hard core kind anyway has turned into a religious cult and they think it's them against the evil outside world. They are the sole bearers of the Holy Truth and must defend America by any means necessary, including slander( think Clinton bodycount, the fabricated stories here on yahoo about opinonated liberals and progressives but that list is endless really) against the dangerous liberals who'll turn America in a communist third world country.
Reality science, reason and facts are less important than the ideology. The American political climate is seriously poisoned. The power of the far regressive right in combination with the disconnect from reality and seeing enemies everywhere is dangerous.

I don't think it's the term "happy holidays" that people take offense to, but rather when the person wishing them "happy holidays" is FORBIDDEN from wishing them a holiday specific greeting, in the hopes of offending nobody. But why anybody would take offense at being wished a happy anything is beyond me. Happy holidays is just weak. I'd rather someone wished me a merry Christmas, a joyous Channakuh, a krazy kwanza, or a dignified Ramadan. At least I'd know they were being somewhat sincere, even if it were a different holiday then I'm used to celebrating. But hearing "happy holidays" is just a seasonal variation of "have a nice day". It's meaningless, and chances are the person would much rather say something else. The holiday season is about peace and good will to your fellow man, regardless of the religion he or she happens to profess. That's universal, and I accept the sentiment behind it no matter what is actually said. Happy holidays just doesn't convey that. So it doesn't offend me, it just kind of saddens me.

Why is the Minority so offended by Merry Christmas? Lets put it on the ballot Nationwide and see how many of the Minority votes it takes to win the political correct term....My guess is it would suffer a landslide defeat, so dont shove the Happy Holidays down my throat.

Personally, and I can't speak for others, I am not offended by happy holidays or merry christmas. I usually respond in kind. I have even said Happy Chanukkah and Happy Quanza when appropriate. Why we are getting so upset over BS trivia is beyond me.

Because I'm not buying a holiday tree I'm buying a christmas tree....
In all honesty though I don't think it is the fact that they say happy holidays that upsets me its the fact that if they say anything else the PC police will get their panties in a twist and make that person's life a living heck, we have a little thing called freedom of speech let them say Merry Christmas or what ever don't relegate them to "inclusiveness"

I think it's "Merry Christmas" that some are offended by...as not everyone is Christian.
There's nothing wrong with "Happy Holidays" because you're including every holiday.

I guess they feel that if retailers are going to turn their holiday into an abomination of crass consumerism, they should at least pay proper lip service to it. Personally as a Christian I don't care either way.

It's a meaningless term, invented by haters of Christianity and Christians. (Some of them answered this very question!)
I suppose I should take the time to ask my own question about this. It would be "why are people offended by Merry Christmas?"

Silly invisible sky god worshipers are so easily offended. Look at some of their antics--burning down buildings over a cartoon, expressing outrage over happy holidays but could careless about trampling the rights of others, etc. I think it comes from so distorted, inflated sense of self-entitlement: My beliefs must be respected but screw yours.

It sounds corny?
I'm not offended- but I will tell everyone Merry Christmas-
if they're offended by that they need to grow a thicker skin or crawl under a rock where they'll be safe.
