The driftwood forts....was that because your parents left you on a deserted island? Kidding ;0)

When I was in the 6-9 age range we lived in Kaiserslautern, West Germany. My best friend, Clifford, and I made a little city for our toy cars up in the apartment attic. Clifford made a bridge out of a 2x4 and toothpicks - we painted it gold and called it (well you can guess). We saved our pennies to buy cars and toy animals and model houses at the German toy store downtown. Walking down there seemed like such a grand adventure.
We had a tree that was our bomber jet, and we could bail out onto the side of a small hill and then roll down.
Clifford's dad went to Viet Nam when I was 9 and he and his mom moved. My heart was broken. Wars are stupid when they're real instead of make-believe.
From 10-14 we lived in Alabama and my favorites were: fishing for catfish in my Papa's pond and water skiing on the Tennessee River.
It's great to be a kid with a big imagination.

* There's a young fellow at work who has been wearing an eye patch for about a week due to a vision problem. A few days ago a family with 4 kids walked past and the little one yells out, "Look! A pirate!"
The guy's got a good sense of humor and gave them his best "ARRGH..ye matey!"
