Stewie had actually been in a simulator the whole time. It was revealed at the end of the episode.

It wasn't a dream, Stewie was using something that helped him see into the future, so he could see what happened if he tried to kill Lois at that point in time.

first off, he's a cartoon and was never really "alive", however in the episode where he "died" , it was not a dream it was a vritual reality simulation. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE
