Pantomimes, with their politically incorrect heroes and villains and their bulky dames with deep voices, should be brought up to date.
Some of the titles, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Robinson Crusoe with an image of cannibals, are becoming more difficult to stage in this age of political correctness.
Throwing bonbons and boiled sweets into the audience has been a tradition of the festive pantomime for many decades.
But bureaucrats are set to stamp out the tradition because they claim boiled sweets could injure a member of the audience.
At the same time, the custom of having a female star playing the Principal Boy, which goes back to the 19th century, is on the verge of extinction because of fears that modern audiences may interpret her relationship with the female lead as a lesbian one.

I used to love the pantomime, but now there are too many 'celebrities' involved. Political correctness has gone crazy, what's a pantomime without the principal boy and the dame? It's a shame the powers that be haven't got anything more important to worry about!
