I really need to go on birth control, but I hate the idea of putting hormones in my body. Is there another type of female birth control that does not have you taking a pill full of hormones?
don't say condoms : )

Yes, there is an IUD. They put it in, it lasts 3-5 years and have either very little or no hormones. I decided on the IUD for that reason. The thought of the side effects deterred me from anything else. On top of that, it is the most effective type of BC (depending on the brand) and inexpensive.

You could go for a hormone-less IUD or a perminant sterolization like getting your tubes tied but other then that you are stuck with the hormones.

They are not that bad once you find one that works for you.

They actually say that women on the Pill have a greater life expectancy and less risk of many types of cancer.

It is only the Hormone Replacement Therapy that you get after menopause that is dangerous to the average woman.

Don't toss the idea of Hormones too quickly... Talk to a doctor about your specific conditions and body and have s/he try out a version that works for you.

Good luck!!

Yeah, we just did a whole chapter on birth control. I would say (if your not a teen) get the IUD. It doesnt use hormones, no daily pill-taking, safe, effective, and easy (doctor needed). Not to scare you but... there is an increased chance of tubal pregnancy and it doesnt offer any STD protection (like condoms). Pills or the injection are still you best bet but, since you dont like hormones... Go IUD!

Sounds like my homework... haha

There are more options than the pill, but they all will introduce hormones into your body. There is a patch, the pill, a shot and a ring that you insert inside your body. If you do not want hormones or condoms, talk to your health care provider to see if there are options that will work for you.

There is a thing called an IUD, it is inserted into you for 5 years. I am sure that it has some sort of hormones in it but maybe not as much as taking a pill everyday! Hope that helps a little.

Paraguard is a non-hormone IUD.

Personally, I can't tolerate the hormones, they make me nuts. So, there are plenty of options, but the condom is your best bet. I also happen to be allergic to latex and the non-latex condoms get pretty pricey. My husband wishes we could just do the rhythm method but I laughed him out of the bedroom.

Anyway, there are foams, creams, condoms, female condoms, diaphragms, and there is even a spermacide that looks like a Listerine Breath Strip (but it doesn't go in your mouth..... EW!!!).

Talk to your gyno and tell them about your concerns regarding hormones. There are plenty of other options out there.

Diaphragm, sponge, and I THINK they make non hormonal IUDs too.
You should talk to your doctor to find what would be best for you.
And sorry to say, but condoms ARE the quickest and easiest choice when you don't want to do hormones.

I haven't had any problems with the pill. The patch & shot are starting to cause more blood clots & such for side effects.

Talk to your doctor and tell them what your thoughts are and discuss side effects of each option.

Though it will not prevent you from contracting STD's, a diaphragm, the sponge, or contraceptive foam are other hormone free options.
