on college grade transcripts, what does an E mean?

to the first response. no, it doesnt explain it. please, next person, try and answer the question! i need help!

it could be "by exam" such as AP/CLEP/DANTES in which case it gets credit but no grade.
some colleges use it as the failing mark in a course that grades as satisfactory/unsatisfactory as opposed to using S and U. some still use ABCDE instead of ABCDF so the E would be 'failing'
if you tell us what school it's from, someone here may have a reference.

If you don't have much on a college transcript, they may want to see your last 2 years of high school just to help gauge what kind of person you are.

Look on the back of the transcript. It should be explained.

The school is Ashford. And They have just evaluated my classes. I passed the Athropology class on Thursday.
