When I build walls, I follow the link below. Too many walls begin to lean over the years because of inadequate foundations. I tend to put in 6 inch concrete and minimum 4 inch beyond width of wall all the way round.

450mm wide * 450 mm deep so long as you have found a good solid bed in the ground if not go deeper. Don't forget to go 150mm past each end of the wall. Then pour 300mm of concrete in level and leave at least 24 hours to go off.
This will be fine for a garden wall so long as it is not a supporting or retaining anything.

dont understand all this frost and hardcore for a wall foundation !
300 wide min 450mm better
just dig down untill the ground is 'hard'
450mm deep is ok if the ground it hard if its still soft ...keep going till its hard, if its solid at 300 then why go any deeper ?
you dont need hardcore for a wall footing ,just concrete
building regs for a house state 500 wide by meter deep but that is a guide only ,if they inspect the hole and if its soft at the bottom you gota keep digging .
there is no diffinitive answer , it depends on the ground (and common sense) you will soon know when you start digging

Find out what is the ground freezing level, dig to that level and pour a concrete base that is 3 inches wider on either side of the cinder blocks you are using and 6 inches high, with two strings of re-bar in the middle. From there build the wall as high as it needs.

for a 100 mm wide block the found needs to be 300 mm with the wall centred on the found.
dig a chanel more that 450 deep to the top of the found or finished concrete height.
for a 1 m high wall I suggest a found 300mm w by 100 mm deep laid on a hardcore base or a solid clay soil...

1x1 foot with a 3" concrete foundation be sure to put a bit hard-core down first (broken bricks will do) beat the hard-core into the soil, get it nice & firm then lay your concrete.then build your wall( blocks) on top.

Depends on the frost level in your area. The ground "heaves up" when it freezes and if the footer isn't deep enough, your wall will buckle.

i would go down about 700mm-900mm and about 300mm wide if the ground is very soft you will have to go deeper.
