a(y-b)=y expand the brackets
ay-ab=y subtract y from both sides
ay-ab-y=0 add ab to both sides
ay-y=ab factorise the left hand side
y(a-1)=ab divide both sides by (a-1)
y=ab/(a-1)

ay - y = ab
y(a - 1) = ab
y = ab / (a - 1)
