I am asking Democrats because it seems to be part of the propaganda that the Democrats are trying to block this effort.

I for one want the fence built.

Anyone else?

I'm a different "David M", but he and I seem to agree on a lot of issues. By the way, before I talk about the Mexican fence, don't forget the report last week that the Canadian border was far more dangerous for terrorists. However, your question is about immigration. The fence is a dumb idea. Most of the illegals enter by bus or plane and overstay their visas. I live in a border state and our border with Mexico is located in very inhospitable mountains. Much of the Arizona border is the Sonoran desert. The FBI estimated less than 200 Mexican nationals actually crossed into my state by foot last year illegally. Many do cross legally in El Paso and Juarez and Mexicali and Yuma and Tijuana on day passes to work as housekeepers or farm laborers and don't return. Has anyone done a cost-benefit analysis on the cost of a border fence versus the number of Mexican nationals who walk across the border? In my state, building a border fence in the southern mountains, which are owned by the Apaches, is useless. The land is almost impossible to cross by foot. There are no settlements on either side. Further, when I drove in and out of Mexico last March, the American border guards waved me through even though we were in an SUV with clothes obscuring the windows. Driving into the U.S. at Yuma, there were no guards on duty. I just drove into the U.S. and hit Hwy 5 and was never checked. You build a 6 foot fence and Juan builds an 8 foot ladder. I can't understand why anyone thinks a border fence is a panacea when so few of the Mexican nationals actually sneak across the border.

Hi Kelly, as a liberal myself I am a fan of most of what you post on here. But I'd like to point out that the congressional dems are not blocking an effort to build "an impenetrable fence" as you put it. But rather a funding plan that only allows for the building of a half @ss fence. Actually its half of a half @ss fence since the true cost of "impenetrable" would run into the billions. I cannot support building half of anything since doing so is a "whole and complete" waste of money as half a fence serves zero purpose. This is a complex project with as can be expected loads of pork designed to benefit not "we the people", but the politicians that are trying to get things such as new offices with solid mahogany furniture, and many other unneeded "upgrades". I would encourage you to research the proposed bills and support a different version of the fence that means true security.

Good Day, Kelly B.,
As you know I am an Independent, politically, have business ties to Mexico, and gal, DAVID M. says it the way it is.
Several Billions of dollars to do this, take YEARS to finish, and it will be one of the greatest wastes of time, money, and efforts, ever perpetrated on the American public ( believe it or not, even a greater waste of money than trying to stop global warming)!!!
Any 1/2 decent person can 'prostitute' a fence, within 24 hours !

Absolutely not.

Why? A fence is generally ineffective at keeping out potential "illegals." No fence or wall is "impenetrable." This certainly would not do anything to curb the smugglers that operate "under the radar." (When there is a will, there is a way.)

The tax money set aside to build a useless barrier can be better spent elsewhere other than trying to alleviate the "problem" of immigration.

Wasn't that the plan a couple of years ago? What happened? Has the money for it been diverted to Iraq? When you are desparate you grasp at straws. The Republicans are so desparate right now they will try anything to discredit their opponents. They know that they screwed up the last 7 years and if they talk real issues they will lose so they resort to personal attacks and childish name calling.

I want a fence also. Politicians talk about comprehensive immigration all the time, well what the hell is that? We have already give them the keys to the country; what else?

tell me please...

How can any fence be inpenetrable ?

If I can't over it, I go under it, ...if I can't go under, I go around.

The fence isn't the problem...illegal immigration isn't the problem...it's a symptom of the problem....the biased and selective immigration policies that favor the rich and educated is the real problem. Make the "front door" accessible and maybe poor people will use it.

Democrat

Don't want a fence.. my opinion is that it is a waste of money and won't solve a single problem.

Sorry, love! Just not feasible.

1) Cost is prohibitive
2) Would be completely ineffective

But I most certainly agree that something must be done to stop the flood of people.

And it really isn't an "immigrant" thing to me - it's a "WE'RE FULL!" thing. A geographic region can only hold so many people, and I think we're quite full, thanks.
