the dark patches you see are the mountainous areas and craters - there is one particular big crater that you can see on the lower half of the moon. Why not get a telescope and you can see in more detail?

the old standby's are the Man in the Moon, and the seated lady reading a book. The Man in the Moon is seen most easily at moonrise when the Moon is full The lady reading a book is visualized by rotating the "Man in the Moon" about 90 degrees counterclockwise.

People have variously seen a man, a woman, or a rabbit in the Moon. The dark areas on the Moon are maria (plural of mare, Latin for sea), which are flat lava plains. The mountainous regions appear brighter.

Hi. At the first half (quarter Moon) the Native Americans saw a rabbit. Once this was pointed out that's what I see too.

when you look up to the moon you see patterns. the patterns are craters and mountains and beacuse the moon never turns on its own axis you always see the same pattern.
