I wonder where these speculations are coming from cos his sacking was ten games too late. If just getting to tourneys (and not building a solid team that plays quality football) is your take then the FA should emulate other associations that draw on the experience of a consortium of top club managers when such emergiencies arise on a match by match basis (until concrete arrangements are made). Imagine having Sir Alex, Wenger and Benitez on the England bench. Great attack, fine midfield and perhaps the meanest defence in Europe plus all the bubble gum in the world to keep them together.

maybe just about!but then whats the point coz we wouldve lost in the quarters.this is why i keep saying that not qualifying for the euros was the best thing that could have happened to the national side because stupid people would have again hyped it all again only for it all to end in hurt and failure.this way we can have a new world class manager(hopefully) and prepare for 2010 PROPERLY with plenty of time

Maybe, maybe not. Hey ain't there so why speculate? They weren't good enough to win a pretty weak group and have an even weaker group for the next WC. Why is it an embarresment to qualify and fail, rather than to not qualify at all? Against a bunch that have no hope of winning? At least Scotland failed in a tough group.

They would have done about average, which they always do, but that is not good enough England have to become one of the big guns, McClaren could never have achieved that status, he's gone now so lets hope we can get someone who is good enough to lead England to glory.
