Well you never know. I had some nasty things happen to my family in my life. I dealt with it by watching what Dr Cox does off scrubs. I drink more than usual and i am outwardly cynical and sarcastic for funsies. But some do it to hide pain, some pretend to do it to get attention. I personally think its to forget the pain.

They usually do it because they are trying to fill some sort of void in their life or they have an addictive personality. They have to figure out themselves whether they want to deal with the problem they are having or keep drinking to avoid it. They will make the choice when they are ready. Usually it seems easier to do what they know is easier. I usually watch "Intervention" and when the people choose help they find out that it is just a core issue that they need to resolve and deal with.

I think many people drink as a perceived way of avoiding facing their pain, but I'm not sure they drink to hide it.

People drink for different reasons.I find drink brings things to the surface and makes them raw for me so I very rarely drink and won't start drinking if I'm already angry or upset. My Nana drinks because of grief over my Mum.My Fiance had a drink problem a few years back and I asked him why he drank and he said it was because he liked the taste!

some people drink because for a short time they forget their pain. but then for others it emphasizes their pain. to tell you the truth, i noticed i drink to curb my anxiety. i know thats bad but i only have a drink or two at night, usually wine. But it really lessens my anxiety and makes me relax.

Not all who drink do this, but I'm sure there are some who do. I know I used to, had to stop as I was getting really addicted to it.
