NO! When water freezes it expands. That is why when water gets into cracks in rocks or sidewalks and freezes in the winter, it will expand and break the object. So when the ice melts its volume is smaller. It does have the same mass. So you see, the density of ice is different than the density of water.

An ice cube--frozen--is a solid block of water. However, frozen water has a lower density than liquid water. Water expands as it forms ice. Look at any ice cube; if you put it in water, it floats. Push it to the bottom and it will head immediately for the surface when released.

Since water expands when frozen, the liquid water takes up less space than the frozen water. So, no, the melted ice cube (water) does not have the same volume of water as a frozen ice cube. It has the same -mass- of water, however, but the volume changes.

If your asking if the same ice cube melted is the same volume then yes obviously -but the frozen one will have more volume if measured in area as ice is bigger

No the volume of the ice will be a little greater (expansion). The mass however, will be the same.

No. Liquid water is slightly more dense than frozen water. That's why ice floats.
Liquid water takes up slightly less volume. Water expands with it freezes. That's why it splits pipes.

No, water expands as its temperature falls below 4 degrees Celsius. So, the same mass of water occupies a greater volume frozen than when melted.

It is hypothosized by a small group of philosophers, that when an ice cube freezes, the molicules explode into the three gas atoms,.. thus creating an expansion in the size of ice compared to water. Thus the thawed ice has less atoms then the frozen, because of evaporation.

But those guys smoke a lot of pot and over think the obvious.
