Can you help me explain this problem to a friend?

A box contains the following numbers {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8}. You randomly choose one number. Find the probability that the number chosen is even or a multiple of 2.

There are 4 numbers that are even (same thing as being a multiple of 2).

4 choices out of 8 result in the desired result.

So the probability is 4/8 or 1/2 or 50%

P = 4 / 8 = 1 / 2

There are 8 possible outcomes. Of those, 4 of them would be an even number. Therefore, the probability is 4 out of 8 or 4/8th's which reduces to 1/2.
