I'm thinking that they would get a little respect, but none from the SEC. The SEC fans think that nobody else plays football. They believe that base on (1) ONE game played between OSU and Florida. Great logic people, great logic. And how is it that when LSU loses to Arkansas, they say that just shows you the strength of the conference. But when OSU loses to Illinois, that shows them that the Big Ten is weak. I don't get it, please explain that to me.

Yes they would (get some respect - other than from the SEC fans who can't seem to comprehend that there are good football teams outside of the Southeast), but no they won't (beat West Virginia). OSU lost to Illinois and WVU is just a faster and more potent version of Illinois with 5 or 6 "go to" guys rather than just 2. I'm pulling for Oklahoma to beat Missouri, because I think West Virginia matches up much better against Ohio State than they do against Missouri.

My concern is the opposite - the Mountaineers are going to hear the same thing when they beat OSU (that OSU was weak and didn't play anybody).

Look it, I am an Ohio State alumnus, NOBODY on this forum uses any logic or research in their postings, especially when it comes to sports. I'll give you two reasons why I feel this way:

1) Everyone in the SEC complains about the BCS system, yet the chairman of the BCS is a former SEC administrator.

2) Everyone thinks that Ohio State does not deserve to be in the BCS title game this year because of strength of schedule, but the strength of schedule rankings puts Ohio State at #37th nationally ahead of the following teams in the top 10: Florida, USC, WVU and Kansas.

What bothers me is that people say the Buckeyes need to play a top opponent to deserve the bid to the title game. But who does USC play out of conference? Last year Ohio State had Texas on the schedule. I don't see any marquis out of conference games scheduled for SEC teams, and rarely are Big East teams grinding things out. Should Ohio State be blamed for a down year in the big 10? I think people need to realize that the system needs to be blamed and not the schools.

Let's not forget that EVERY year one teams is claimed to be undeserving of a bid to the NC game. When Ohio State won the crown in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, NOBODY thought they would stand a chance against Miami and didn't deserve the bid. Last year prior to the game Florida was thought to have cried their way into the game behind Urban Meyer's campaign for a shot. After the game OSU was claimed to be undeserving even with an undefeated record entering the contest. IT'S FOOTBALL, anything can happen That's why we all love the game.

The correct answer is that nobody not in the SEC will ever get any respect from anyone IN the SEC (or from their fans), so no, neither OSU, nor WVU, nor Mizzou will ever get any national respect, if by national respect, you mean from anyone south of the Ohio River or east of Texas...

and yes, I know that WVU is "south of the Ohio", but you know what I meant...

yes, the florida thing gets old. Ohio State gets respect no matter who they beat in the big game. WVU is very deserving to be there, and I think whoever they play, they will win.

the guy above me doesn't realize that the SEC is celebrating 75 years, not 100. Big 10 is over the course of history the most dominant, most traditional league out there.

I don't care about national pundits. OSU has been to two BCS championship games in the last 5 years, and the rest of the country is jealous.

Many SEC fans arent claiming they have the best team in the country.... I think we claim we have the best teams in the country... That means the whole conference; From top to bottom the SEC is the best... even if Illinois is good the rest of the conference wouldnt stand up in the average SEC schedule.

2007-11-26 14:41:03 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 2

basically we have a three way combination aiming at the NC game.... Mizzou/OSU/WVU

no matter which two play... the winner will only be able to declare that they beat the other team.... they will NOT be able to say they are "the best in the country".

*_*

so... short answer.. no, there will be no respect.

not until they beat a SEC team. OSU is 0-7 vs SEC since 1990.

You do realize that Illinois plays the same offense as WVU, only they are twice as slow.

AND WVU has a much better defense.

You guys really should pray that Mizzou wins, because WVU fans are foaming at the mouth knowing that they would rip OSU top pieces.
