outcrop,
can you be a little more specific?

to all,
and the point is: who is to decide what is acceptable behavior? As a society,we have implemented laws to decide what is unacceptable behavior;while we may agree that the aforementioned examples are less than ideal, who among us has the right to infringe upon the rights of others simply because we disagree with thier choices?

outcrop,
we are in agreement.the problem occurs when environmental terrorists and others take it upon themselves to infringe upon the rights of others without regard to the correct legal process for change.

The point, then, should be that you need to digest the fact that laws are derived all of the time and are as evolving as our society. Thus, what you could "do" 20 years ago, ain't necessarily so today or tomorrow.

Disagree . you are permitted to do some of those things and some are illegal .

You can not drive any car you want on the road .

You can not smoke in the mall .

You can not spend your money on anything you want . Just try going to Wal Mart and paying for just one cash registers customers some time and see how long before you are told to leave .

You have none of the rights you think you have .

Still thinking inside the box with the brain that has been indoctrinated since birth I see .

Even If I promise to be careful and clean up after myself I can not have a meal anywhere I want . I can not take a grill two chairs and a table down to the beach set them up and prepare a meal and enjoy a bottle of wine or champagne with a date or a wife . Unless I own beach front property and even that is no guarantee that I can .

You can tell me about the thousands of legal things I can do and I can point out 10,000 things I should be able to do but can't .

I agree.. but there is one little catch and you stated it in your question.. "Do pretty much anything I wish as long as it is legal"

since majority decides what is legal.. sometimes things like say.. smoking in a restaurant become illegal... in a case like that.. which statement outweighs the other?

You can do all those things so long as you don't expect a government hand out when you die of lung cancer or a heart attack or the confined animals turn on you and attack you because you won't let them into the grain alcohol.

Otherwise, go to town.

you're oversimplifying.

smoke? around whom? where?

drink? then drive?

keep as warm as you wish, cut down trees, drive. etc? as it affects others? the energy you use?

it's all relative. generally, I agree you SHOULD be able to, but it's relative.

As long as your unhealthy lifestyle doesn't drive up my insurance premiums, I have no problem at all with it.

agreed.

but doing what is within your rights doesn't make you a good person.

so if you're looking for a pat on the back, look elsewhere.
