Mulitiply by (1 - i)/(1 - i):

(3 - i)(1 - i)/(1 + 1) = (3 - i)(1 - i) / 2

(2 - 4i)/2 = 1 - 2i

Your answer is correct.

In Cartesian form, this is (1, -2).

multiply both top and bottom by 1 - i

[ (3-i) (1-i)] / [ (1+i) (1-i)]

FOIL

(i^2 - 4i + 3) / (1 - i^2)

we know that i^2 = -1

(-1 - 4i + 3) / (1 - (-1))

siplify
(2 - 4i) / (2)

1 - 2i

yes, your correct! ;-)

i don't know how to put it in cartesian form. sorry
