I used to have a huge crush on this guy, who would sit there every day talking to me about...another girl: how beautiful she was, how nice and smart and perfect she was. And I sat there and listened, never meaning it any of the times I said `Oh, I'm so happy for you.' I guess this is a good example of how I let my feelings out in songs, and sometimes no other way. And I've never been afraid of using names. I love this song because of its honesty and vulnerability. To this day, they are still together and he has no idea about this song."

My personal theory is "Drew" is actually her first boyfriend Drew Dunlap, the one she wrote Tim Macgraw about. And she is telling people it is this other Drew, as a cover. I mean come on, it is too much of a coincidence otherwise.
She probably wrote the song before she and Drew Dunlap went out, and he did no know she had a crush on him. Or, maybe after they broke up when he was in college and they tried to be friends. I looked it up, and Drew Dunlap is married now, and he seems to have been with her for a while. This could be Taylor talking about Drew Dunlap and his now, new wife.
I think the whole first album is about Drew Dunlap. Not Sam Armstrong, or Brandon, etc. There is no evidence she dated any other guy in highschool.
The Sam in Should have said No , could be the name of the girl he cheated on her with.

When Taylor was in high school, she was good friends with a guy named Drew. She had a major huge crush on him, but he didn't know. He had a girlfriend, and every day during school he would sit next to Taylor and talk about how pretty and cool his girlfriend is. Taylor never told him that she liked him- but she did write a song about him! Every one of Taylors songs is about someone she knows.

Drew is a real guy that she liked a whole freakin lot in high school, but he just wanted to be friends. She wrote the song before she became famous. Just in case you haven't heard, Taylor Swift writes about people around her. If she doesn't like you, she Will write a song about you. Well, not you in particular, of course, just people in general. lol.

I read on her website that he is a real person that she sat next to at her old high school that she had a massive crush on and he would always tell her about his girlfriend.
