I teach fork lift operation and safety and drive a manual transmission every day.

The third pedal on MOST fork lifts, is called the inching pedal. Its one part clutch pedal, and one part brake pedal. It allows the operator to move the forklift, just a little bit for manuvering loads around.

The levers are usually: Carriage up/down(what the forks ride on), mast tilt forward/backward(the tall part the carriage rides on), and the third lever will depend on what options the forklift is equipped with.

No it's not too hard. Rear wheel steering is common, makes it a little quirky to get used to. Watch the front forks remember they stick out it is easy to catch something with them especially while backing and turning.

Most common pedals on a forklift from to left to right
1 ParkingBrake -maybe a clutch
2 Brake
3Accelerator

Thee levers on a forklift for fork control from left to right

1 Raise/lower forks
2 Tilt mast forward or back (tilting forks)
3 Either spreading forks wider apart or moving forks left and right without moving forklift.

There is also a forward and reverse lever probably on the steering column (may look like a turn signal lever) Some forklifts have an accelerator pedal that rocks forward ro go forward and rocks back to go in reverse. Ask an operator what the controls do or see if the operators manual is on the forklift or in the office.

different mfgrs use different sticks. some have a clutch pedal, some have 2 brake pedals. why don't you ask someone that normally uses the fork?

the levers are for the fork blades, the forklift should have another switch for foward and reverse. they are automatic
