Yeah, there's the picture of the envelope... However that just sometimes does not cut it and while I do not consider myself a genius, I do not feel like I'm on the same level as an ape.
I agree with the guy that stated your settings. Check your printer's settings and the settings of the program that you are using. It does take practice. Printers have come a long way, and it depends on just how familiar you are with your printer and the software. I used to screw up all of the time. About three years ago - we were forced to take an intro to computers class at my two-year college. It helped a lot! I'm putting parts in my computer, I'm a whiz at Microsoft Office, etc.
Just practice, and run a blank sheet that you can keep for scrap on a draft setting first if it makes you more comfortable.

I know what you mean..heres what I do.
I set it up for envelope size and using a scrap piece of 8 1/2 x 11, I run a print to see where and how it comes out and then it gives me an idea of how to put the envelope in and on which side.
I don't do enough envelopes to remember which side is the one my printer uses, but I think it is on the right side. Either way, that's how I do it on my Epson 3810.

When you print on an envelope there are always optionsfor the way you put the envelope into the printer. You just have to get to know your own printer and choose the right option.

you have to adjust you paper setting.
There should be an option on you printer for printing envelopes, this will be found it you print properties under paper selection. Provided the envelope is loaded correctly the setting will automatically rotate the text to print right side up

Look at the little graphic inside the printer, it shows how to load the envelope.

If you look at your printer, it will generally have a little picture of an envelope carved into its feeder, showing you which way to place it.

Because you're not paying attention to which way you insert the envelopes into your printer.
