That means you will earn your own way. Why do people think that I as a God fearing person should pay for their medicine or housing when they are not earning their keep per the bible and then have the never to say since I will not give into their extortion I am not a Christian?

It is a false dilemma at best two (2) options are given and there are clearly better alternatives, like I keep what I earn.

As a Christian, I think that we are called to be of a giving nature. Yes, life is unfair and you have to do things that do not make sense, but I also feel that we have to take care of those in need. I understand where you are coming from because many people who get government help, sponsored by your hard-earned money, are lazy and have no desire to better themselves, but are happy collecting government funding... But this is not everyone. There are still many out that who use this funding for the propose it was intended to serve, and that is to get themselves back on their feet after a rough spot. Instead of being upset about the undeserving bunch, try to think about those single moms or disaster victims you are helping... and pray for the others. After all, we are called to love everyone, and praying for someone is the best kind of love!! Remember, you reap what you sow...

God also said "If a man will not work, then neither let him eat." Notice it doesn't say if a man CANNOT work or if a man CANNOT FIND work -- The Bible tells us to be charitable and give people who have fallen on hard times a hand-up. It says if a man WILL NOT work, meaning the person has made a choice to be lazy. Nowhere in The Bible does it say we are to give such a person a handout.

Bible says give to the poor. It doesn't give any other stipulations on that. So earn your keep and bless others. Sounds like somthing personal is going on with you. I understand the delemea. God guides us on where to place our money we earn so you should never feel extorted and people who menipulate you have problems and need guidance not money. Although they rather just take the money they need good swift kick and a shove in the right direction.

You can find individual Bible verses, taken out of context, to support anything you want.

There are Biblical imperatives to look after the poor and for economic justice - lots of them, beginning with the Hebrew law. All scripture is to be interpreted in terms of the two Great Commandments - love God, and LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR as yourself. You also might want to look at the "sheep and goats" passage towards the end of Matthew.

Did not Christ say "The Poor you will always have with you" ? Don't you feel that someone who is blessed with much should share with those who have little? Many people fall into the category of "working poor", they are doing their best but still need help, if you are a Christian you should live it by helping out.

LOL- you really need to get your head out of the bible and read up on American History-
While I agree that most people take advantage of the Welfare system we do need it, and there needs to be a Reform - Our Government does need to help us when we fall on hard times (ex: laid off) because if they didn't help us get back on our feet we would fall into another Depression... which wouldn't be good for our Country

I will, and if the Democrats keep getting their way, I'll soon be earning every ones keep by the sweat of my brow, but I'm going to guess that my keep will be significantly less than my sweat!
