i have a home network on a linksys router, i set it up with the software that comes with it on my Dell desktop. Then i added my HP laptop to connect it wireless to the network. Then i added my brothers Sonny laptop to connect it wireless too. Everytime my brother turns on his Sony laptop, and tries to connect itself to the network, a yellow icon appears saying that an IP address conflict occurs and it cant connect to the network. This same thing happens to the Dell desktop, but it doesnt happen to my computer. I have manage to solve this problem by unplugging the router off then plugging it back in. Is there any way i can fix this problem so i dont have to plug the router off everytime my bro wants to connect to the network?

Well, it sounds to me like you have set static addresses on those two machines to the same address. Set both to automatic and be sure your router is set as a DHCP server with enough addresses to use for all the machines you want to connect.

If that fails your router may have a problem or you have more than one DHCP server on the network!

PS --- you don't need any software to setup a router the Web pages work better in most cases. Just log on to
http://192.168.1.1 in your web browser and enter the username and password for your router! (192.168.1.1 is the default address for the router!) Be sure you are not trying to use that address on anything else!

sounds like your router is handing out the same address. Assuming you didn't make configuration changes to the router, power down everything (router and all PCs). Then power up the router and wait a minute or two. Then boot up the PCs.

If you get the same error, then your router needs to change from static to DHCP.

If you are set to automatically obtain addresses, then the router is giving the same address twice, which is not likely.

Check to see if one or more machines are statically addressed, and if so, check to see if the addresses are the same. If so, change one of them.

Set up static IPs for each machine on your router - refer to the documentation for more help.

if you hardcode your IPs in the computer, make sure they are not the same but if you configure your linksys to be the one who will give out an IP.. just try to clear the local network in the linksys if there is, to refresh all the IPs...
