Start by distributing the numbers through the parentheses by multiplying:

3(4y + 2) --> 12y + 6
2(1 + 5y) --> 2 + 10y

That makes the equation:
12y + 6 = 2 + 10y + 8

Add the 2 and 8:
12y + 6 = 10y + 10

Subtract 10y from both sides:
2y + 6 = 10

Subtract 6 from both sides:
2y = 4

Divide both sides by 2:
y = 2

Double-check the answer to confirm we didn't make any silly errors:
Left side:
3(4y + 2)
= 3(4(2) + 2)
= 3(8 + 2)
= 3(10)
= 30

Right side:
2(1 + 5y) + 8
= 2(1 + 5(2)) + 8
= 2(1 + 10) + 8
= 2(11) + 8
= 22 + 8
= 30

The sides balance so our answer of y = 2 is correct.

Multiply: 3 times (4y + 2) = 12y +6 and multiply 2 times (1 +5y) = 2 + 10y + 8 New equation:
12y +6 = 2 + 10y + 8. Subtract 10y from both sides and you have 2y + 6 = 2 +8, subtract 6 from both sides and we have 2y =4. Divide both sides by 2 and we have 1y = 2. Y = 2.
Check in original equation:
3(8 + 2) = 2 +20 + 8
3 times 10 = 30 thus 30 = 30. Value Y =2

the answer to this equation is y=4. it isn't that hard, first you distrubute the 3 to the 4y and the 4y becomes 12y and the 2 becomes a 6. (3 x 2) then you do the same on the other side.
so the equation looks like this 12y+6=2+10y+8. then subtract 10y from both sides. Equation looks like 2y+6=2+8. then you are left with 2y+6=10, subtract 6 from both sides 2y=4 and then divide both sides by 2 so the answer is y=4!!!

distribute the 3 on the left and teh 2 on the right side
12y + 6 = 2 + 10y + 8

simplify the right by adding the like terms of 2 and 8

12y + 6 = 10y + 10

get the y terms together by subtracting 10y over to the left

12y - 10y + 6 = 10
2y + 6 = 10

now move the 6 to the right to get the constants together

2y = 10 -6
2y = 4

finally, divide by the 2 to get y by itself

y = 4/2
y = 2
