Do we have the right to say when we want to die? Should there be doctors who are allowed to assist us?

I think that we should have a choice to live or die. Not for psychological reasons. If you want to die because you don't want to handle your simple personal problems in life then that shouldn't be allowed. It should only be allowed in cases of being a vegetable like Teri Schiavo. Or if you have a disease that prevents you from living life enjoyably. I totally agree with what Dr. Kevorkian was doing back in the day.

I think it depends on your beliefs. I don't know how any one that is against abortion and the death penalty is for euthanasia. If you believe that it is not our right to decide you lives and who dies then no we don't have the right to euthanize. There is also the issue of how far are you going to take it. Is turning life support machines off or sign a DNR consitute as euthanasia? I personally don't believe doctors should be able to assist people to die. We will pass from this planet when it is our time, not a minute sooner or a minute late.

I do believe it to be a violation of my basic human rights to suffer. Thus I am for Euthanasia. When faced with a tragic and terminal illness, I believe it is everybody's right to pass away with as much peace and dignity as possible. Euthanasia is legal in many nations, however none in the west. I believe this to be a function of the fundamental Christan values many hold which state that taking ones own life, or assisting in taking another life is a sin regardless of the circumstance.

I think, only in extreme circumstances, that people should have the right to be put at rest.
I do mean VERY extreme circumstances, not mental issues or things like that, but severe pain with an 80%+ chance of dying in a short period of time anyway.
I think I'd fight to live - but I've never been on the brink of death, suffering and desperate - so I can't be certain that I wouldn't want to be put out if that ever happens, but I hope not.

I think all of us should be allowed the right to die when and how we want to. However, since doctors are suppose to treat disease and heal the sick, they don't make very good executioners. It is again their natures to "bring harm" even if it releases the one who wants it from another minute of agony. Someone who is specifically trained in both law and medicine, and who does not practice medicine as a profession, would be a better choice for such a deed.

The liberals are for euthanasia/ assisted suicides and abortion...but they are against the death penalty and the War on Terror.

I whole heartily endorse euthanasia for liberals.

i would have to agree with the above. i believe anyone should have the right to choose. we let them choose to terminate other peoples lives (abotion) why cant we decide our own? i personally witnessned the , act n assited one illegally. over the phone of course. she had no choice n i am not ashamed, her other option was to lose all brain function and become her worst fear. its not illegal to get old and foggy in wander in the desert to choose yr fate. why shouldnt people who dont have the option do it in a more traditional setting? who's with me?

I think we should be able to say when we have had enough pain and MDs should help us.
