your two digit number is:
x*10+y*1

you are to subtract (x+y) = x + y*1
The y*1 cancels leaving:

x*10 - x = x*(10-1) = x*9

Your number is always a multiple of 9

check the table, all multiples of nine have the same symbol!

The trick is simple.
You take any two digit number in the chart
98=9+8=17
98-17=81(81 has 8+1=9)

Take another number 65
65=6+5=65-11=54(54 has 5+4=9)
So for al numbers 9,18,27,36,45,49,54,63,72,81,90,99 etc for the reminder after deducting the sum of digits, you will get the symbol "e", so you get the same answer for any operation, and single "e" is placed to show when you hit the ball.

This is all the trick. Everyone gets the same answer.

Hey, that's a good trick!

Here's what's actually going on. The mathematical function the program asks you to perform always produces the same set of numbers no matter what starting number you pick! What changes each time is the arrangement of symbols next to the list of numbers. Each time you click on the crystal ball, the program chooses a new symbol and places this same symbol next to the set of numbers produced by the function. The end result is that you think it's always predicting the symbol you've picked!

I love these math things.

The trick is to create a formula whose answer will always be a multiple of nine. Then make sure the same symbol is next to all of the numbers that are multiples of nine.

the last time i tried it, out of 4 times, they only got it right 1 time.
