Or EXTREMELY exciting?

I know it isn't a shock realization.
I mean like when you finally acknowledge it, Iwhat I was meant to say was how did you deal with it when you accepted it yourself?.... better?

There wasn't any shock realization. I've always known as long as I can remember. It was more shock when others found/find out.

Like a lot of the other people on here, I never had that "Oh my God, I'm GAY!" moment. I just came to slowly kind of realize it about myself in 5th and 6th grade. I guess my reaction to the realization was a bit different than a lot of people- I never struggled with it or felt really depressed about it. I knew that at the time I could not be "out" (I'm 34 now, so this was about 1984-1985) so chose to be in the closet. I was always straight acting though, so really didn't have a problem hiding it.

First time I realized it. I was in a DISCO in Kaiserslautern//Germany. Where only gay folks would go. But had no idea that I was a lesbian.
Well, when it hit me it came down hard on me. Cause I was raised in a strict religious home by my grandparents. I run out, took my coat, cryed, prayed that I was not one of them.

Then realization set in as I came older. Now, I am perfectly fine with it and happy and content living with my long life time partner. Happy Holidays to all of you.

lol I am still confused after all these years. I am 21 I started to question myself when I was around 12. Sometimes it is frustrating. Truth be told, I am gay but not sure if I will be able to have a relationship with another man. Guess that uncertainty has lead to all the confusion.

i knew i was missing something from an early age. i always liked to dress up in girls clothes and play with dolls. needless to say, at the late age of 19, i woke up one morning and realized i was gay. i liked men! i wasn't surprised, but relieved that i finally understood what was missing. within a week i told my parents, siblings, and close friends. i wasn't ashamed. i couldn't wait for my first experience. about 3 weeks after coming out of the closet, a peer approached me in the shower (at college). we did the deed and i have been actively living a gay lifestyle ever since.

I am still trying to figure it out but I dont think it comes that quickly you sort of get more and more curious about the same sex as you and then you realise you have crossed the border into gay or bi.

It wasn't a shock reaction because it wasn't at all sudden. It took six months of doubting and questioning and finally figuring it out.
Very hard.

When I realized I was a lesbian, I was alright with the idea. I didn't realize that there was a problem until I found out what my sister and her friends was talking about. They were calling some girl a dyke and talking about her so badly. When I found out that the word dyke was describing me, I learned to pretend that day.

You don't *suddenly* realize you're gay, you kinda always have the doubt present in your mind.
But it can be shocking when you realize you might be attracted to the same sex, and that you actually want it... I consider myself to be bi, but I already got used to it, hahaha!!
