I reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition on my ASUS P4P800S-X and now have no sound. When I troubleshoot everything it says that it is working correctly, apparently not if I have no audio. Can someone help me?

Most common issue after a rebuild. The Windows XP CD does not include many audio drivers. The correct driver for your sound card was not available, so it has you using a generic one.

Go to the Asus web site and look in their Support/Drivers/Download section for your model and get the audio driver. Once installed, you should have sound again.

Install the Drivers which came with the motherboard. If you are using another sound card, install the drivers which came with other sound card. Oh, also Windows XP Professional is a lot better than the Home Edition, so I suggest you go for the Professional.

If you are using the "onboard" audio card you need to load the drivers for the sound card that came on that CD ROM that came with the Motherboard.

If you are using an secondary audio card (like a Soundblaster) make sure to turn off the "onboard" card in the bios and install the drivers for the secondary card's drivers which can be found on their website.

Go to Asus.com. Once your there search the downloads or support page of the site for your motherboard. Once you found it, find the drivers download for that motherboard, then find the audio drivers and download it and install it.

If you have a sound card, go to the manufacturers web site and do the same.

Just playing, Seriously... :)
