Globalization has been a disaster for the working people of the world. The idea was to break down national barriers to trade, but the way globalization has been carried out, borders are open to capital but not to labor. NAFTA, for instance, has managed to lower wages and increase unemployment in all three countries!

Besides Americans losing jobs to Mexico, Mexicans have lost jobs because even their jobs have been 'exported' to poorer areas near the border. This is one reason for the increased flow of illegal aliens to the US.

Most Democrats are not philosophically opposed to globalization on principle. It's just the way it's been done. It hasn't been done in everyone's interest, only in the interests of the large corporations who have influence with our government, and who want a 'race to the bottom' for wages and working conditions.
