would be willing to give up you IRS returns to help out those below the poverty line. seems like the best way for those who want to help those less fortunate and maybe help eliminate some social programs. are any of you who are for these unmonitored social handouts be willing to give up that irs check?

Over the past 40 years, we have given BILLIONS to those below the poverty line. It has not eliminated it one bit. They need to be taught financial responsibility and somehow motivated to get off their butts and improve themselves enough to get better jobs. To say they can't is to say they are too lazy and stupid. In which case, I don't feel sorry for them and refuse to give them anymore of my money.

To give the government more money would not eliminate social programs, they would only increase the ones they already have and create new ones.

I don't get any money back. The junior Senator from Massachusetts ensured that with a change to the tax code in 1991. Because I receive a military pension, 85% of my Social Security check is considered to be taxable income. So, I am paying taxes twice. Once in the form of my FICA taxes over the years (since age 11) and again by having the proceeds of those FICA contributions taxed again.
