Liberals. I wonder if they will mind waiting in line for several weeks for nothing, while Republicans get their nothing first.

This is a dumb question! The only people that would want to oppose this are THE INSURANCE COMPANIES,THE HMO'S AND THE PPO'S because they WOULD LOSE THEIR INCOMES AND THE EXTRAS. All of the DOCTORS, HOSPITALS would get paid DIRECTLY from the Government, but at a pre-determined price. Which means, that if the best Cardiologist charges 15,000.00 for a bypass, and the State is only wanting to pay 8,000.00 then the Doctors would have to accept that. Also, they (drs.) will not have to carry malpractice insurance, ALL of the people including rich ones can go to the same doctors and get the same kind of care paying the same co-payment, and the doctors, will not have to go after a person to collect their fees. I am originally from Canada. Before the start of Socialized Medicine, the Catholic French Canadians were dying at a very young age. Because of religious beliefs, they would start(women) have children from the age of 16, until they could not have any more because they were too old, and because they had so many mouths to feed, health insurance was the last on their list, so hundreds of people died including children and their mothers, as there were home births more than hospital ones. Once the Socialized medicine was put in, the longevity of the people have increased, because the medicine and the doctor visits were at one set price which was affordable. I had 3 of my 4 children there, and the only thing that I paid for was the use of the phone in my room.
The way the Socialized medicine was done, a certain
percent of all salaries were deducted every week and that paid for it. If you earned a lot, then your percent would be higher than the person that earned less. In the end it all worked out. This started out in 1970 and has been working ever since. Yes, if you went to a private hospital there would be extra charges, and you do need a referral from one doctor to another, but you get that now where it is costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. So, I vote YES FOR SOCIALIZED MEDICINE!

Socialized medicine gives only mediocre care by mediocre doctors and technicians. It also requires one to "get on a list" for specialized treatment such as cancer. If you don't believe it just look at the number of Canadians that come to the USA for treatment, because of the delay in their home country. Once the government takes control over our health care and all the doctors are working for the government do you really believe that there are going to be the very talented doctors that we have now? I think not! Those persons will be going into a field where they can make BIG money, not the pitifully pittance that the government pays doctors. Take a look at our military! The only way a vet can get decent medical care is in the private industry. Any one who supports socialized medicine just hasn't been informed of the consequences.

Not I.
We do need a fix in this country on behalf of those who currently fall between the cracks and do not qualify for MediCare and cannot afford private insurance. I fall into this category and have no problem admitting that it is scary!
However, would I want to see everyone else in this country sacrifice their superior care so that I may have mediocre care? Not on my life! It just isn't right.

I am.
An example, I am retired, and married. My wife is younger than I and we have a 21 year old college student at home. So, I have to take the insurance through my retirement to cover my wife and son. To get it, I have to be insured.
HOWEVER, I am 65 and am now REQUIRED, or I get penalized, to take Medicare! So, I pay for Medicare A B and D which double covers me, ( a great deal for the insurance companies) OR, I get a 10% penalty every year I don't sign up. With a Universal coverage, we're all covered. I don't mind paying for it, as long as we are covered and NOT double paying to two insurance companies for the same coverage, which they then make the Federal Government pay (Medicare) so they get money from ME, the Feds, My Retirement Insurance, and My social security!

Not me I've studied history, and I don't like to rely on hand outs. Anyone who support socialized any thing need to remember this "just because you are a good person doesn't mean everyone else is; your utopia is not their utopia. Be careful what you ask for, some times you get less than you need.

I'm for socialized medicine.
I've experienced it first hand and it works better than whatever you want to call the mess that the US currently has. Indeed, I could pay my own way and I *STILL* think that socialized medicine works better.
A single payer system eliminates paperwork - go do some research on how many people in the American health care industry are concerned with JUST paperwork.
The actual costs in the US are higher because you're paying for all of those people.
The biggest contingent against socialized medicine is not Doctors (who are for it) but INSURANCE COMPANIES who would lose big time.
These people are continually funding candidates and adds against socialized medicine because THEIR jobs are on the line.
And you are their pet stooge.
The common miscomplaint about single-payer is "the lines". OK, yes, on occasion there are lines - but no more than the lines in a big city American hospital Emergency Room. And every person in those lines will get appropriate care - unlike in the US.
Companies in the US are having a harder and harder time competing against foreign companies whose employees get health care from their government. Many in Detroit blame the US health care system for the huge failure of the American auto industry failure (though I think the fact that they were making gas guzzlers in spite of the signs of global warming is a big factor too).
There are many things in the world that operate more efficiently if they are done privately. THIS is not one of them.

The sky is not falling. Fact is the government investing in the 45 million without health insurance is a just and smart investment to make.
