If the baby's eyes seem itchy and swollen as well as watery and bloodshot and he has a runny nose, he may be having an allergic reaction to an irritant such as dust, pollen, or smoke, although allergic reactions are rare in babies under 1 year. An allergic reaction doesn't stem from an infection, but it could become one if your baby continues to be exposed to the irritant.
It shoiuld definately be taken to the doctor! The baby could be trying to get attention, although a baby also doesn't know right from wrong, so it needs to be shown more attention and nicely taught not to eat the feces. It is extremel unhealthy. PLEASE, make the mom take her to the doctor. If she won't you can always call DFACS, but the risk with that is it could be placed in a foster home. Talk to the mother about the situation if she doesn't correct it then take that step. Good luck. Maybe talk to the grandparent... they usually can help more!

If your picture is really you, I'm guessing you are in your late teens, I would suggest talking to a trusted adult about this, a parent, a friend's mom, even a school teacher or counselor, maybe a human development teacher at school. Your niece likely has pink eye, the bad kind and might need an antibiotic, as far as eating her own feces, that is not a good thing, physically or psychologically.
As for the eye, if you are ever her caregiver, gently wipe the eye with a warm cotton ball, from inside out, using a clean cotton ball for each eye.
If you don't have an adult to go to, CPS is an option, they are suppose to keep the report anonymous, but have slipped and revealed the person making the report in the past, so weigh the consequences, there is a good chance this could ruin any relationship you have with your nieces mom, and thereby risk how often you see your niece. But again, if her health and situation is as bad as you say,CPS will help her, but exhaust other options first.

The best thing you can do is CPS. I know this is a hard step to take, but you have to think of the child first. Here in Illinois we have parenting classes for those people who have never been taught to care for their children. C.P.S. also makes mothers attend these classes too. I have a sister-in-law that got into some trouble. She had to go to the parenting classes. it is called Family First Classes. This did not hurt her one bit. before it was over she had a better home for the children, more clothes for their backs, food on their table, and best of all, the children was put into a nice day care everyday. This way the children were not neglected. They were cared for, fed breakfast, and a decent lunch, and given a nap. Also the day care kept a close eye on the condition of the children when they arrived and listened to what they had to say. This was a relief on the rest of the family. I do not associate with the mother, just the children.

It sounds as if your niece is being neglected. I would suggest calling the baby's doctor and having a long talk with the mother. CPS may not be the answer because they may not find enough to constitute a case and the mother would then alienate you from the child. You cannot help the child if this happens. Also, ask to watch her and then take her to the doctor yourself, you may have to pay for it yourself but if you love her then just do it.

The child does need medical attention. At a year old, a child will put anything in their mouth...BUT the mother should be attentive to diaper changing immediately after her baby's bowels have moved. Can you speak to the father about this? I assume that's your brother. If the child doewsn't get help she needs CPS but get prepared for a big uproar if you report the mother. The child could be taken away. Whatever you do, be sure it's for the baby's well-being only.

This is not normal - and if the mother is allowing her to eat her nappy contents, and neglecting a clearly bad eye, then I am sorry but you have a duty to that child to get help. Tell her straight and ask her why she is not being a proper mother - perhaps she has no money for a doctor or is frightened and doesn't know how to look after the child.
If she won't listen to reason and accept any help you can offer her, then do go to the CPS.

that sounds like pink eye and if the mother is not taking care of her go ahead and call CPS and make a complaint, there is no need for a child to suffer if they don't have too.

She probably has pink eye. So you should talk to her father, and ask if you or him will take her to the doctor. You can call the cops under child abuse if you want.
