I plan on voting in the next presidential election. This will be the first time I have ever voted. My only concern is getting the troops back to the US so they can be with there family. All democratic candidates had plans, but the only problem is I really didn't really understand what they were talking about. Can you guys please help? THanX

No one else understands them either. In fact, I don't think they know what they are saying... don't feel bad.

VOTE TO KEEP AMERICA SAFE

If you vote on a single issue... ie "troop withdrawal" it is likely that you will be disappointed. Whoever the presidential candidates are they cannot truly know what they will do until the moment they are in office... Dennis Kucinich & Ron Paul say they will pull the troops out "not matter what"

I disapprove of the Iraq war, Bush lied about the reasons to go to war... BUT if we withdraw at this point there would be a vacumm that Iran might step into fill the void... that would not be in American interests and could spark a larger war in the MiddleEast.

I would choose a President who will use Diplomacy FIRST and use the military to protect the peace table.

Remember you will be voting for much more than PRESIDENT... there are local and state candidates and issues... in the run up to the election do as much reading as possible on all candidates and issues..

The League of Women Voters frequently puts out some pretty good stuff on all the candidates.

Well that's very thoughtful of you to want the troops back home to be with their families, I also share that concern. Unfortunately the top tier democrats have all folded on the issue of Iraq. Clinton, Obama and Edwards all stated in a prior debate that they cannot commit to withdrawing all troops out of Iraq by 2013, possibly even later..

If your main issue is having the troops home, then I strongly suggest you look into Ron Paul, he is the only candidate that has a valid exit strategy for Iraq, that will have the troops home as soon and as safely as possible..

Thank you for the question

The first thing to understand is that no matter what the plan, our troops will be there for a good 2 years or more. There's so many men and women not to mention all of the equipment that we can't just pick up and come home. You should consider other issues besides the war in iraq when choosing someone to back. If you go to foxnews.com and click on the u decide icon it will break down several of the most important issues and where the candidates stand. Some of the republican candidates have good views on how to get the troops home as well. But one thing you also have to look at is that we are making progress. My boyfriend is currently serving his 10th month of a 15month deployment over there and he has told me about lots of the improvements made. A very important issue to consider as well is the living conditions for our troops as long as we are there. Some of them are very below standard. So when looking at the candidates, see where they stand on funding as well as long term plans.
Hope this helped you.

All the democrats will dance around the pull out of our soldiers. They will hint at it, but then say they will stay. They could get hem home by not voting to fund the war, but they vote to fund the war.

Ron Paul is the candidate for you if you want the soldiers home. He says the war is unconstitutional, and because of that, we CANNOT be in Iraq. Therefore, he would begin withdraw as fast as humanly possible.

Ron Paul knows the $300,000,000.oo per day being spent in iraq would do much better here at home fixing roads, or helping to sustain those who are dependant on social security.

well, dear, the way i understand the sneakiness that is taking place as of now, eventually, we all will witness turkey(very pissed off country over their dealings with refugees from russia, iran and iraq) move over the border from iraq into iran(that's why their are so many militants trying to stop them.i also see america only supplying air support in this while israeli covert units are working with youth iranian undeground to get rid of their monster, when this happens, 99 % of all terrorists will find a way into iran to take on the turkish army(they don't belong to the geneva convention,so they can kill all pows captured),this will leave a giant vacuum in both afganistan and iraq and give al-jazerra news and osama bin laden something different to worry about, if turkey wants to take back a few countries, like in the old ottoman empire days(so lawrence of arabia-turn over in your grave),meanwhile we drive our two divisions south to kuwait, get on board the ships and come back to houston texas and the rest, fly out of bagdahd international, all of the vets are going to need our help and i think a team like hillary clinton and vice president condaleeza rice would be perfect.oh,i'm a 60 year old former combat marine and vietnam vet, whom switched for the person whom has a m.b.a. degree in hillary.semper fi and red mike out

If you want the troops home from Iraq, don't vote for Hillary or any of the Republicans except Ron Paul.

here's a breakdown of the candidates' positions on Iraq. It tells you what each has actually done and said about the war.

it's a bit wordy, but you'll be much better off figuring this out for yourself rather than having some people with strong opinions tell you what you should think.

As far as I know, Ron Paul is the only candidate who is campaigning on a plan to immediately bring our troops home. Period. Not five years later, not when its politically popular - ASAP.
