If your computer is off, no one can hack into it unless they can get into your room to turn it on.

You also are safe if you unplug the access to the internet (phone or cable access)

Hackers can not access your machine when it is on if you have a firewall working on your pc. (also disable remote access in control panel/system properties/remote)

Then you can stop worrying

There are new computers being sold on the market now that have the BIOs option to let the computer be powered on by network card activity.. in other words, if something trys to get to your machine from the internet while the machine is turned off, it will turn the machine on.

Also, firewalls to good hackers are like tissue paper to a waterfall... If they know what they are doing, and are halfway decent at it, they can blow right through firewalls like there was nothing there at all..

I've never heard of a hacker being able to get into your computer if it is turned off, but simply unplugging the power cable should be more than enough.

IF you turn ur puter off and, disconnect from the net...NO, they can't get in..They can't access a blank wall...
I sometimes wonder about this too, for example..they can turn on features to ur cellphone without you knowing it and listen to you talking in the room unaware...
SAFEST thing to do is disconnect the line to the net...period.
You can and should tighten up the security features of your modem that's used to connect to the net..Turn on ur firewall feature..there's alot of things that could be done..Just know that by disconnecting is the easiest way and the surest way.
On my laptop..I always turn the wireless modem off when not in use..
GOOD LUCK~!
You might do that...

media, makes hackers look like super criminals, that can summon nuclear war, from a payphone, or what ever, but in real life, no hacker can do that, or break into a computer, with the power off, and unplugged, please stop being so paranoid.... to connect to your computer, they would have to connect thru the internet, but if you leave that off(you dont need to with a firewall and anti-virus soft.) they wont be able to break in.... i hope this makes you at ease...

Hacking can only take place via the internet. If your machine is off & disconnected, you won't be on the 'net.

Leave a chalk mark in the usual place if you want to know more . . . .
