I am 12 wks, haven't gained a single pound yet but for some reason I went up about 2 pant sizes! It looks and feels like I am really bloated. What could this be that is making me LOOK bigger but not gain weight? I mean both water and fat have to weigh something right?

Hey ladies I wasn't looking for snippy remarks, I'm not dense. Of course I know there is a baby in there, but I'm not showing at all. I was looking for an explanation like water weight, extra blood...something. If you're gonna be rude don't answer.

It's not so much about water/fat. Your uterus expands outward. Not necessarily creating much weight...not enough to notice. It's kinda like blowing up a balloon. It really doesn't weight much more, but it got bigger around.

Aha! I have to answer.
You have actually lost weight because the baby is making your body burn mega-calories! I lost over 10 pounds at the beginning of my pregnancy and yet still had to buy preggo clothes.
However, you are in fact bloated (which is making up for the weight loss) and there is probably not much you can do to decrease the bloating except to avoid salty foods and sodas.
Congrats Momma-to-be... there are so many more weird preggo symptoms in your near future ;-)

You might actually be losing weight but with the baby and all the "goings on" you are actually getting bigger. That happened with my first child (of course this one I am 12 weeks and look like I did when I was 5 months with my first one!!). It could be things moving around too - all of your organs in the mid section have to move to accomodate the growing uterus.

There are about a million things that happen at least half of which affect your waist line. Extra blood, water weight, a lot of things, you would be surprised as to how well most womans pants fit so VERY little might make them not fit. Household scales are not exactly super accurate devices.

As the baby develops, it requires more and more nutrition from you. Chances are good it's growing and your fat deposits are shrinking. Therefore, your weight is staying at an equilibrium while your body (because of the growing baby) is enlarging. Hence, the larger pants size.

It could just be gassy bloating. Pregnancy can cause all kinds of digestive fun and games like that. Also, it's possible that the swelling of your uterus is becoming noticeable, but you have lost weight in other places, resulting in zero net gain.

Ummm...you are going to have a baby! Whether you gain weight, your body is changing....hips are widening, etc. There are body changes that YOU can't see but are happening... That was when I thought I was pregnant, because my clothes all of a sudden were fitting differently. I didn't "feel" pregnant, just knew my body was changing... :)

I would say it's probably just your uterus and your hips expanding to accomodate the baby. So you're not really gaining actual fat in your body, it's just your stomach and uterus growing.

Your hips spread and you start to retain water. I went up a pant size and actually lost 7lbs my first trimester due the morning sickness.

Are you kidding? You have a person growing inside of you. I only gained 16 lbs with my last pregnancy, but was still as big as a freaking house when I delivered her.
