That depends.

Do they mean that they think women shouldn't be able to vote, own property, get an education, or work? Do they think rape and domestic violence are no big deal and that the victims probably deserved it?

Or do they mean that they get tired of man-bashing, of the casting of all men as villains or imbeciles, of denials and dismissals of suffering that men experience?

What is the image of a "feminist" that they associate with their hatred? Andrea Dworkin? Or any woman who pursues an education and a career and expects to be treated with respect?

EDIT

It also depends on something else.

Are they sitting in their mother's basement posting rants online but scared to even speak to a woman in real life?

Or are they in a position to write laws, make rulings, influence policy? Or acting out their beliefs violently?

Although they seem quite common on this page I believe it is only an attempt to speak out in forum where they can remain anonymous and gain attention they lack in their real-life (most of them anyway). In reality I have found people who hate feminism/feminists are in the minority. I don't take them seriously at all.

That depends on the person. For example, some men on this forum have proven themselves to be genuine misogynists who think women are inferior. Naturally, they hate feminism because it suggests women are equal and has allowed women to do other things with their lives than cook, clean, and raise kids, and these men hate that because they basically want a submissive housepet. These men should not be taken seriously in the least.

Other men, however, are all in favor of women being treated equally in society, but are just upset at some of the unequal treatment men have gotten lately. These men can be taken more seriously, however they still need to keep in mind that if it weren't for feminism, women would still be second-class citizens and property. They also need to understand that when they make generalizations like "feminists hate men" or "feminism wants to make men's lives worse", they need to realize that the women that they are talking about represent a SMALL MINORITY of feminists (and in all honesty, I wouldn't even consider them real feminists, just like I wouldn't consider someone who "kills in the name of God" a real Christian). The vast majority of feminists truly want gender equality. They are incorrect in their assessment of the true nature of feminism and feminists, but they are correct in that something does need to be done to correct injustices towards men.

We should only take the ones who have something insightful to say seriously. Forget the ones who just go around screaming about how much they hate feminism, and what an unrealistic idea equality is.

Not sure what you mean? Are they some kind of physical threat? I doubt it. Most people who hate on others in anonymous settings like the 'net are cowards. Can you take their arguments seriously? Depends on the person. If you feel like they make legitimate points, you can try to sort that out of the invective. But people who say they "hate" an entire group of people aren't often reasonable or intelligent.

Firstly, I think you need to separate out feminism from feminists. Then, you need to separate the true feminists (interested in social and legal equity) and the so-called feminists (interested in me-me-me).

Once all that is done, you can identify what it is that they hate. And I think you will find that their distaste is for those
who CALL themselves feminists to disguise their hatred of men and their desire for entitlement...

About as serious as I take man haters... not at all. This is the Internet and people say things on here that they wouldn't in public. If there was a group of these people standing outside my office saying women shouldn't work, then we have a problem. As it is right now, let them stomp and cry.

Seriously enough to avoid being stalked or harassed, not so seriously that you lose sleep over it or commit your every spare moment to voicing your opposition or trying to dispel the hate.

People are entitled to their own opinions, but I'm not going to stress myself over people who hate me.
