i have been trying to connect for awhile to xbox live but i have failed does anyone now if is it possible to go on xbox live by using the ethernet cable and putting it in the back of my pc in the ethernet cable slot??

nope. the way i connect is i have a spare ethernet cable for my xbox. keep the ethernet cable connected to the back of your computer, but disconnect the other end of the cable from the router box. then connect the ethernet cable from your xbox to the router box. you won't be able to be on the internet and xbox live at the same time, unless you have a wireless connection. you'll just have to connect and disconnect cables each time you want to use the internet or xbox live like i do.

You need to get a router or a hub then you can run both the computer and the xbox on the internet modem/
