hello all i have had my kids make a christmas list and my son at the age of 12 still wants toys for christmas he wants some stuff for his ipod too but he wants wrestling figures and such. do I have to tell him to grow up or is this normal at this age? he was 12 this year so its not like hes nearly 13. but now and then he does things that are quite mature but then he wants to play with toys that i buy my 9 year old and twin 6 year olds (all boys!) I still have to do his hair in the morning and remind him when to shower and take a bath. he isnt the most modest child either. but i dont know why he still prefers wrestling figures and action men. he's also very small for his age so i guessed its because hes not going through puberty but he does have hair under his arms as he thought would be funny to show me. he goes out with his friends to play football alot but he plays silly games alot too so does he need to grow up or is this normal for 12 to play imagainary games? when is it not normal

He's just in that inbetween age. There is nothing abnormal about his behavior. It's certainly better then him having sex and doing drugs!!!

I would think that 12 years old is not too old to play with wrestling guys. I have an 18 year old brother who actually still plays with them. It seems that boys (and men) never grow out of their toys. A child's imagination is a wonderful thing, don't make him feel he needs to "grow up". I don't see a problem with his toys, he is only 12. Feel lucky that your son will still sit on your lap and play with his toys. At least he isn't going out and drinking and doing drugs. This is the age that a lot of children start experimenting.

I know some very grown up men that still like to play with action figure toys. It's perfectly normal for him to regress sometimes and play with toys that are too young for him. Don't we all do that from time to time? At 12 he's just starting to mature. I wouldn't be concerned until he's 15 or 16 and still acting immature.
If that's what he wants... that's what I'd get him. He'll "grow up" at his own pace.

Children grow at different ages and stages, the modification is individual.
Don't worry he'll catch up. Look at the bright side...Of all of the things a 12 year old can get into today. He's still harboring his innocence. That's a good thing.

it's normal to want things little kids play with, i know a sixteen year old boy that plays with lego's and there's nothing wrong with holding on to things from childhood, he might play with these toys because of the interaction with his little brother, encourage him to play with kids his age. boys always need to be reminded to take a shower (not all but many do, boys are boys, they're always getting dirty) now his hair, he should do his own hair... his body might be maturing faster than his brain, but give him time, puberty for boys is around age 13. and about the imaginary games, it depends.

It is ok for a 12 year old to want toys for Christmas. Although he is become a teenager, but he is still a little kid. So why not allow him to enjoy his childhood before he becomes 13 next year and demands to grow up before your eyes?

Don't tell him to grow up! Enjoy that he is still a kid ;)
The fact that he didnt go through his puberty yet may affect his interests :) But there's no wrong in wanting action figures! I played with my barbie dolls til I was almost 14 ;)
Let him have fun, when he's ready, he'll let you know

i think it's just fine for a 12 year old to want toys still. he may be interested in toys for another year or 2. all children are different, and grow up at different times. no worries, before you know it he'll be borrowing the car and staying out too late.

totally normal! my bro acted like that all the time at his age and even into high school i still had to pick out his clothes and help him do his hair. he is just in that 'middle stage' where he will start growing up but still want to act like a kid. boys dont mature as fast...

Enjoy it while it lasts!! Pretty soon he will become a typical teenager. My brother acted the same way until about 14. He will get there.
