I did a test, I made a fake name with my address and filed out something for an online casino. I get mail and phone calls for the fake name all the time. My fake has even been pre approved for a credit card!
If a site requires a phone number I put the number for directory assistance in the box.
It's way too easy to figure out where a person lives by doing a reverse search for their phone number.

Never, I give a phony number and a phony address, and I only buy over the Internet using cards bought for the exact amount I need to pay, only for sites I trust.

It's an invasion of privacy. I was in a Big Lots store the other day and they asked me for my zip code at the check-out lane. I know they're just trying to determine what area of town their shoppers come from, but it's none of their business. That's why I never shop at the "chain stores" like WalMart; Lowe's; Target;, Home Depot; Meijer's; Kroger, etc. I might pay a little more - and I might have to drive a little further - but I'll ALWAYS trade with local, independently owned merchants who know me and respect my right to privacy. -RKO- 11/26/07

I'm just amazed that you remember the number, half of my dreams either don't finish all the way or I can't remember what the h**l I just dreamed about. I wouldn't recommend calling it myself, I would think that he/she is an old ex for a reason or you'd still be together right?

No I don't like to give out mine either. I will change a few digits, if I really want the info.
I also hate it when stores (like Bath & Body) ask for you email address at check out. Checking out takes long enough as is, now they want to add an extra step.

I did a couple of times...to insurance compare sights and boy did I regret that. They telephoned me constantly. Since that I always just give out the number I no longer have. I always give out my email as you can always block unwanted ones.

I do not and I do not give my email address either. Now, if they have just one little piece of information about you, they'll soon have all of your account numbers and SS , too. It's bothersome to me, but then... identity theft is healthy and getting healthier. Most people who have been hit don't even know it until weeks later. Did you see 60 Minutes report Sunday night on credit card theft and how easy it is? They can easily tap into dept. stores data bases now. Whew!!!
