Hi there
i am a travel agent and have been to Vegas many times
Depending on what you want there are a number of excellent 4 star hotels. The Bellagio is fab but very very overated.
Try the Luxor or New York New York. Both are at the "right" end of the strip ( stay away from the Strosphere or Circus Circus however do go the the Stratosphere for the rides on top of it if you a re brave enough)
The shopping at preium outlets is fab got onto the Premium Outlets website beforehand and register for the dicosunt booklet they sometimes offer
Also if you are going over a weekend beware hotel prices in vegas are triple the weekday rate on Friday and Saturdays and double on a Sunday. However the shops on the strip stay open until 12 midnight on a Friday,
Prostitution is rife and not illegal and therefore you will be plagued by people, men and women offering you booklets and business cards all along the strip. If you dont want the hassle or are not interested dont take any of them as you will be tortured.
There is a trolley buss that takes you up and down the strip but its very slow walking is easy but look after personal items.
Try the yard of Margaretia at Margaretaville.
For trips Hooever Dam is a must it sound boring but it has to be seen. There are also a good few helicopter tours that can be reasonable. For a special and cheap treat order a limo from McCarren Airport, its only about 10-15 minutes from most hotels.
lastly try to stay on the strip and dont stay in anywhere further up than Treasure ISland
Have a blast

The fountains of Bellagio are a must see if you are in Las Vegas. Take a canal ride at the Venetian. Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris. The Forum shop at Caesar's are the best shopping in Las Vegas.
Bellagio is a great hotel. But if you wanted to stay next door at the Monte Carlo you will save alot of money. It has a tram between the hotels.

Watch a few magic shows. I agree the Bellagio is expensive, but it's at a very good location. If you're going to take our advice and walk everywhere, the Bellagio will be a good "home base." The cheaper hotels are not as good of a location (Sahara at north end of strip, Greek Isle a ten minute walk from the strip, Barbary Coast a five minute walk from the strip.)

Your best bet on a hotel is MGM Grand. Great location and has many foreign visitors. Bellagio is way too expensive and you are better off using your money for something else. You will find you won't be in your room that much here so why pay top dollar.
For things to see and do go to www.vegas.com and you can find all that can be experienced here. You will be amazed at all there is and you will have so little time to do it.

Rent a car and drive for a couple of hours north on 95. You'll come right through a town called Beatty, and just outside is an actual ghost town called Rhyolite. It's an old mining town and there are still a lot of buildings left, including Tom Kelly's bottle house, which is, surprisingly enough, made out of glass bottles. A good day trip if you want to get off the Strip.

Best thing to do if you want to go sight seeing, is stay in a motel, like at Travel Lodge. It's much more inexpensive and you can use the money you save to go to other places and attractions.
Try to walk as much as you can and avoid the taxis; they're a rip off and sometimes they say that they don't carry change, so they'll end up making you pay more.
Try to hit up buffets and if you're good at gambling, try to win atleast $25-30 for the day so that you can pay for your shows without having to dip into your wallet.
Vegas is cool at night, but don't forget that during the day is when it's less busy; so try to get out and see things during the day time; I'd recommend the hours of 12-5pm. Once the night comes around, everyone is waking up and getting ready to hit the streets = massive crowds at times.

Don't miss the roller coaster ride in the New York New York Hotel, and drop in at Hooters. Give your dad a thrill. And do pop over to the Grand Canyon while you are there. It would be a shame to miss it. Give my best wishes to Lola the showgirl if she is out on the street.
