I don't know for sure, but the best singer doesn't always win. It seems to be a popularity show, more than ability to sing.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if it wasn't rigged. That annoying British judge makes so many promises (last year I heard it was that he'd quit the show if Sanjaya won). Well, actually I'll rephrash that better. I don't think it's rigged per say, but I think it's FAVOURED. Such as, they like a certain someone or few, and they "encourage" voters to vote that way. There is also a disclaimer after each show and before I believe that says, "American Idol producers reserve the right to discard any votes they feel necessary."

With that said, I don't watch or like the show because it's turned into a media whore and I find the contestants are just given things, rather then worked for them.

There is no way for a show to be rigged. After the game show scandals of the 50's they are all closely monitored. It is very possible that people are influenced by the judges, one of whom has a monetary interest, but the voting is completely legitimate.

I don't think it is, but when someones favorite doesnt win, the rumors start flying that its all rigged. I think a story that big, if it were true, would definitely not be able to stay a secret. Not with the persistence of todays media. That would be HUGE news, think about it!

I hate American Idol, it's just a show that mocks people who cannot sing or are different. It is not interesting in any way at all. Fu** You American Idol.

I don't think it is rigged but I do think that the voters aren't truthful. Like last season, voters hurt a lot of good singers, just so Stupid Sanjaya Malakar could stay, when he seriously sucked.

No. They base it on talent, and although I've rarely seen talent on that show. It is not rigged.
