SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Nov. 25) - Beauty pageant organizers were investigating Sunday who doused a contestant's evening gowns with pepper spray and spiked her makeup, causing her to break out in hives.
Beauty queen Ingrid Marie Rivera beat 29 rivals to become the island's 2008 Miss Universe contestant, despite applying makeup and wearing evening gowns that had been coated with pepper spray, pageant spokesman Harold Rosario said.
Rivera was composed while appearing before cameras and judges throughout the competition. But once backstage, she had to strip off her clothes and apply ice bags to her face and body, which swelled and broke out in hives twice.
"We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves," Rosario said. "But the second time, we knew it couldn't have been a coincidence."
Rivera's clothing and makeup later tested positive for pepper spray.
Someone also stole Rivera's bag containing her gowns, makeup and credit cards. And a bomb threat forced pageant officials to postpone the last day of competition on Thursday, said Magali Febles, director of the Miss Puerto Rico Universe pageant.

What's the idea of this? These action can be taken as a criminal action since affects the health of a person. Why to be so envious for? Why to scared of this lady for? I hope that the authorities in concern will investigate this 'till the last consequences to avoid this to get worse. No body has the right to play with the dream of a person like it was done with Miss Rivera. Because of that, ¡Vamos a ganar la corona otra vez! Adelante Ingrid, te queremos y vamos a ti 100%.

Oh My God! I hadn't heard about this, that is nuts! Why would someone do this? why else? jealousy, if not jealousy perhaps a dare of some sort? Psycho friend of another contestant? I hope they find out who i'm curius to know who would go to that extreme to make someone lose a competition. The irony of the story is that she ended up winning anyway!

Whoever did this prank probably got the idea from the show "Las Vegas" on NBC. Last month I remember watching an episode that had many similarities to this event. You can click this link to read the recap on the "Las Vegas" episode I am referring to.

That is just awful that some jealous ***** would go that far to hurt someone. It makes you wonder what kind of world we live in!!!!

It is a pageant after all. Expect stupid sh*t to go down when the others think they dont have a fair chance...

it just goes to show you ...the extent people will to...... just to win....and that can happen in anything competitive...or jealousy
