I have three cats and a dog plus a chinchilla

I give the dog capstar once in a while if she seems itchy...just in case.

As far as flea protection, I just use hartz.

Having this number of animals I can't afford the 15,.00 a pkg stuff, frontline.

And so I am thinking that one of my cats has worms. Which I know is from fleas...
And so I plan to take her to the vet and then the vet will give me wormer for all of my cats.

But then I have to keep up on the flea stuff.

Does this hartz brand not work or what? It also seemed like when I put it on them it was burning them, and they were freaking out and all sorts of stuff...like it was real strong.,

So what flea stuff do you use, I need something in a decent price range for al lthe animals.

Hurtz is not really a good brand to use. I have never heard one any one having good luck with it.
I don't use flea shampoos.
In truth I put some garlic powder in with some wet food once a month and I have never had any problems with fleas.(My Grandfather bred Airadales for almost 30 years and that is what he used.) Also bakers yeast works real well if you mix that with there food.

NOT HARTZ! This is the most infamous of all brands in America. I'm sure another answerer will direct you to hartzvictims.org.

And on top of the amount of cats it has killed, no Hartz does not work. No pet store flea product does. The reason for this is simple; stores are not licensed to sell the drugs that are actually effective, and safe. So don't trust any flea treatment from a store.

Yup, Frontline is more expensive. But it works, so is actually far better value for money! It may work out cheapest for you to buy bottles of the spray version of Frontline rather than the spot-on. It's the same drug, just in spray form.

Capstar only kills fleas currently on the animal. It is not a preventative at all. Frontline will kill fleas on the animal, and keep the animal protected for at least a month. Get some, it's worth it

Well I use only Frontline plus, this way it might cost more in the being, but in the end there is no cost for the vet. Allergies, worms, hot spots, home treatments, and so on. For the dogs it lasts 3 months for flea protection and I've found it's affective on my cats for 6 weeks sometimes longer. Just remember 3 days before and after no bath. Hartz I found and heard it doesn't work. I've four dogs and four cats no fleas in over 10 yr.s:) Best of luck

I use advantage and I believe this is the best flea protection. One trick I do is just buy the stuff for my dog. When I open a tube I put a little tiny bit on my cat and then the rest on my dog. It all has the same ingredients they just give the cats a little tube and the dogs a big tube. Cats are very susceptible to pesticides though. Monitor your cats very carefully when giving them anything like that. Another thing is the Adam's flea spray. My vet uses that sometimes and it is good when you want them dead immediately, it just doesn't last very long.

For my dog I use Advandix ( but yes it is expensive ) for my cats I use Advantage (same expensive ) As far as something cheaper, you may want to try biospot...I have never used it but I have heard good things ..here are some reviews on it at 1800 petmeds. Most pet stores carry it now as well.

Over the counter products were under investigation for not just "burning" but killing cats.

Since all my critters go to the vet if I take a stool sample in from one I can buy the meds for all of them without taking them all in for a visit.

You might find the Frontline spray a lot more economical for the cats..

A lot of people seem to prefer that for their cats... If your dog is smaller, then it might still be an economical choice for him..
