The chances are pretty slim unless you pose a serious threat to the welfare of others and the psychiatrist may then recommend that you stay away from others.

If the psychiatrist feels that you are a threat to yourself or others, he will recommend that you be institutionalized. I doubt seriously that he will give you a letter saying you need not attend school. What he will most likely do is help you feel better about yourself and your outlook on life. Basically, he will help you deal with/ get over your depression. Believe me, if you are really depressed, just getting out of school won't be the cure, even if it seems like it now. If there is some issue at school that is causing you to be depressed, you should explain to him what is going on. He can probably help with that.

I am sorry to hear that you are depressed and going through a rough time with school.
If the psychiatrist finds that you are totally distraught and severely depressed, you may very well be told to stay home, and then eventually home-tutored. I have heard of this happening.
I am glad you're seeing a psychiatrist. It is a positive and the right move to make. Best of luck.

None...Zip...Zero...Nada...Nil...
ALL teenagers go through a period of "depressed"-like feelings...few are going through TRUE depression...
I have NEVER heard of a pyschiatrist writing such a letter..
I KNOW school can be a bummer....boring...difficult...a royal pain in the rump you'd just as soon not deal with...
But....unless you are threat to yourself or others..no Dr in his right mind (no pun intended) would write you such a letter...
He/she would say you need treatment, hospitalization, or medical treatment of some kind...
Why would you want to quit now...when you only have a couple of years left? You've come this far...why mess it up now? To just 'drop out" is to be a quitter. You will never have a decent job without that diploma....When I was in high school, the few kids who dropped out ended up going for their GED...that education is so very important....
I have added below my reasons that I am personally going through depression myself...I would like to add that I get up every morning, go to work, and attempt to be a member of society....I have a great marriage, wonderful family and friends, and a strong faith...If I can live through what I have, I'm sure you can "deal" with your "depression"....

I agree with agresea. About the fear of leaving your house but you need to do your homework. I was very shy and hated to go to school so I had a tudor come and homeschool me. She came over one time a week to review my assignments and give me tests..Just go to school. The worse they can do is flunk you. Put your name on the paperwork and just write down believable answers..Good Luck..

If your psychiatrist were to diagnose you with agoraphobia, you may be able to stay home. Look it up on the web.
