The best method would be to set up a small home network. To do this you will need a hub, a network switch, or a router. The router is the best of the bunch, but all will work. Once the network is set, you will be able to transfer files from one computer to the other.

If you have a router, connect both of them to the network and make sure one of them has sharing enabled. You can then browse the network and copy files.

Otherwise, a USB patch cable can be used. Your desktop should recognize that another peripheral has been attached and assign it a drive letter.

You should be able to do this via a USB connection from one computer to another. If your desktop computer is a relatively new PC, it will recognize your laptop.
