Just reading the news headlines, and came across this.

"Sudan arrests British teacher for naming bear Mohammed"
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20071126/tuk-sudan-britain-arrest-a7ad41d_1.html

Like the children named it and they were only 6 year olds. Yet shes in custody =|

Am I the only one thinking this is silly? And how come it is such a big crime for 6 year olds to name a teddy bear Mohammad?

Arab Sudanese have nothing to do except kill black muslim Darfurians and look for insults to Mohammad all over the world in their spare time. Time someone booked them for barbarity.

Well, if that is the headline, then it's a lie. Her students were the ones who gave the teddy bear that name. The headline should have read:
"Sudan Arrests British Teacher About A Bear Named Mohammed".

You really hate to think and say this, but it's not the stories like this that scare me the most. It's the people who are supposedly modern and informed here on Answers that say thinks like "she should respect the law" that make me hold almost zero hope for humanity.

This lady was doing something she thought was cute. The parents that complained and the parents of the 20 of 23 children who voted for the name Muhammad should be given the lashes for not properly educating their kids.

When the authorities caught wind of this, someone should have taken the teacher aside and sternly warned her that this wasn't funny to them and not to do it again. That alone would have scared the daylights out of her. But no, that's not enough, she gets fired and arrested and faces corporal punishment.

In general, Ignorance of the law shouldn't be an excuse for obvious crimes like murder, assault, robbery, rape, arson and others, but to follow through with prosecution like this shows the nation of Sudan as a bunch of brutal animals who don't deserve the benefit of foreign teachers.

Isn't it sad if this nation vanished into thin air tomorrow (no, not violently) THAT NOBODY WOULD NOTICE. That's the sum total of their contribution to the world?

Oh yeah, I forgot, they are devout followers of Islam and for that reason we should respect them and anything they do in it's defense it justified. Give me a break.

Well... It's not just the teddy bear, you know. Islam get insulted by books (Rushdie), Danish cartoons, toilets (I guess Imams don't take a crap), movies (Tho Van Gogh) and about everything on earth that moves.

I'm seek of this bullsh*t and their so called "Religion of Peace". Nuke them.

Note: Yes, I am taking the risk of offending a hyper-sensitive muslim somewhere in the world. Tough sh*t... Issue a fatwa, if you like.

....and the muslim world wonders why people think they are a bunch of morons. You know, I feel sorry for Muslims, most of them are really good people trying to fight off this stigma that they are getting hammered with, but yet, there is always a crowd that find another way to be an even greater bunch of numbnuts. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Sudanese Government.
