This goes back to the classic question of nature or nurture.

The answer to this comes in many ways from whatever philosophy you take. There are reasons to support both sides. There is research that looks like it will go either way based on how you choose to interpret it.

Classic example would be television and the news in America today. The constant dumbing down of the people with news of Britney Spears and other celebrities making complete fools of themselves.

Currently in Romania there are children in orphanages who have been confined to their beds since infancy. They have little or nor social interaction with staff or visitors. They have little or not cognitive stimulation.

I think there have been studies done regarding physical, emotional, and cognitive deprivation and mental retardation.

Nobody cares about studies. People live lives and know the answers despite fixed studies.

Added: Oh, they don't huh... people do not know what is going on in thier lives and need to be told - stop lying to yourself who ever thumbed me down. Yes, you can thumb me down but ya can't lip service or document lies to get money without giving out an ignorant image.
